Is It A Real Tattoo?

Yes.

Handpoking is still delivering ink to the skin in a permanent fashion. Just done manually dot by dot without the use of a machine. Because this is done by hand, it is a longer process.

How long will it take?

Sessions typically range 1 - 4 hours depending on detail, size, and placement. Some pieces may require multiple sessions.

Is handpoke more painful than a machine tattoo?

\_(ツ)_/¯

Pain is super relative! The location on the body, and even things like illness and menstruation can affect pain tolerance. For me, handpoking tends to feel more like a prick or pluck of the skin than a stab or slice. Most clients report they are pleasantly surprised by the sensation. Handpoke tattoos are generally gentler on the skin, resulting in less trauma and faster healing times. The process is quieter, more meditative, and often offers a softer, more organic look compared to machine tattoos, which can be bolder and more precise. I recommend bringing any comfort items that may support you through the process. Feel free to reach out if you are at all worried about this aspect of getting a tattoo!

Where's your flash?

New flash (images I've drawn that you can get tattooed) will be posted in Instagram. Almost all my pre-drawn work is repeatable, so what you see on my IG feed is most likely up for grabs.

Can I make adjustments to flash designs?

I am open to slight variations and adjustments to flash designs. Feel free to send me an email with specific questions or requests.

Can I book a consultation?

Yes! If you have tattoo questions or would like to book a consultation before requesting an appointment, please email me at jademycelia@gmail.com or schedule a consultation here.

What should I wear and bring?

Rule of thumb is to wear loose-fitting clothes that accommodate your new tattoo, but can also protect it from the sun once it's finished. Layers are great! I also recommend bringing comfort items such as: a cozy blanket, water bottle, snack, headphones, eye mask, etc. If you have a placement-specific question, feel free to email me.

Are Stick & Poke Tattoos Safe?

Yes! When done by a trained artist using sterile equipment and proper hygiene practices. I’m grateful to be a licensed handpoke artist and follow necessary sanitary practices to ensure my clients are safe and comfortable.

Are you accessible and ADA compliant?

Yes we are. Jackalope built the shop in compliance with ADA standards. We are located in a space with street parking only. If you need assistance with parking please call (612) 353-6846 and we would be happy to help you.

We recommend parking on Longfellow (the street one block behind/west of our shop) as it is not as busy and located in a neighborhood.

Jackalope is a large shop. Sound travels very easily. If hearing 2-4 separate conversations at once could be overstimulating or triggering for you, you can request we close the curtains for additional privacy. Similarly, if making small talk while being tattooed could be anxiety inducing or overstimulating, you're in luck! I tend not to chat much during tattoos. This is not because I don’t want to connect with you, I simply tend to enter a focused meditative state and it can be challenging to offer thoughtful conversation during this time- I will still check in with you verbally along the way. This is why I encourage headphones!

Do you do cover ups?

YesI I often get requests to elevate, enhance, and refine current artwork. If you are interested in a coverup, you can fill out the cover up tab in the booking form here.

Can you tattoo this old tattoo /scar / keloid / stretch mark?

Possibly! I have some experience tattooing scars and stretch marks, however, no experience tattooing keloid areas. Scars and keloids must be fully healed (1 year) in order to be tattooed, and stretch marks will always run a higher risk of blow out than unaffected skin. Tattoos are typically more painful on the affected skin.

Something to note: while I will never ask how your scar(s) came to be, I may need to look at your scar and ask you how old it is before tattooing near or on it; I will ask for your consent before making any relevant comments or asking questions about your body.
